Our Engagement Pictures
One of the exciting steps after getting engaged is to find a photographer that is perfect for you and your fiancé.
I met our photographer, Jarod and his wife Julia Schilling, at a bridal show right after I got engaged. Soon after meeting them I knew that their company, Schilling Photography, would be a great match for us. I did some research before the bridal show and Schilling was in my top three photographers, so I did have them in mind. The great thing about going to bridal shows is that you can connect with photographers (and many other vendors) in person, instead of just via email. Meeting vendors in person makes choosing between all of them a lot easier. You can usually tell if your style and ideas are going to mesh with theirs, which is key for your wedding planning and wedding day!! I definitely recommend checking out photos (Instagram is a great place to start) and getting price sheets for multiple photographers before choosing one.
We chose this photo above for our Save the Dates!!
At first, Matt and I were not going to take engagement pictures. We thought, oh we are going to have so many beautiful pictures from the wedding, we don’t need more. And, if your guys are anything like Matt, they dread taking pictures right!? Well, Matt was so surprised at how much fun he had!! We are so glad we changed our minds!
I mean, who doesn’t love running and dancing around a gorgeous field together!?! Jarod made our session so fun, relaxed, and personal! A few of the many reasons we love him and his photos.
An engagement session is the best way for your photographer to get to know you and your best angles, so your wedding photos will come out perfect!! Think of it as a photo trial, just like you have a hair and make up trial.
The same day as our engagement session, Jarod sent us a few sneak peak photos and by the next day we had all of the pictures back. They were better than we could’ve ever imagined!!!
Floral Crown was made by LeFleur Floral Design in Washington, Illinois. I showed them a picture of my dress and a couple ideas for the crown. They did an amazing job getting the exact look I wanted!!!
Hair & Make up by a great friend Colleen Elser out of Peoria, Illinois. She does an amazing job!!
It is so special having these pictures of us. We have a long engagement (1 year & 9 months) so these pictures were taken about a year before our wedding. The photos were taken in the Peoria, Illinois area.
I had a vision for our outfits, but it took me awhile to finally decide on exact pieces. I wanted to keep it to only one outfit change, a dressy look and a casual look.
Dress: I looked everywhere for a dress to wear, I ordered a few, but returned them because they just weren’t what I was looking for. Meanwhile, this gem was hanging in my closet and I realized how gorgeous and flowy it would be in the pictures. It is on major sale right now and only a few sizes left, so snag it up!! I originally wore it to my best friends wedding rehearsal dinner last summer. It would be a great dress for a graduation, wedding, shower, Easter or anything dressy this spring or summer!! Linked here are some other beautiful dresses with a similar style for you: Cold Shoulder Midi, Coral Midi, Blush Midi, Yellow Midi, Ivory Midi Skirt, Cross Back Midi, & Pale Pink Midi
Top: This top is cupcakes and cashmere, I found it at my favorite boutique Pink Sugar (in Peoria) last summer and knew I wanted to wear it for my engagement pictures. You know how much I love my blue & white. I’ve linked a few similar tops: Blue Ruffle Sleeve, Blue & White Print, and Off the Shoulder
Jeans: My favorite jeans at Loft. Love the dark wash! Make sure to order a size down because they stretch out throughout the day.
Thanks for stopping by loves!!
