Healthy Hair Habits

Healthy hair is everything!  Within the last year I have put a big emphasis on natural beauty products.  I still have some room to improve, but I have switched the majority of my hair products over!!  I also have a few habits that continue to help keep my hair long and healthy!!  I’m spilling all I know about how I keep these habits going!

Healthy Hair Tips & Habits

  • Shampoo & Conditioner is everything!!! I use Monat! I do not sell it, I just genuinely love it.  There are all kinds of great shampoos and conditioners out there, but make sure you are using the correct one for your hair (i.e.  if you you color your hair, make sure you use a hydrating or color treating shampoo and conditioner).  And I truly believe you get what you pay for with S&C.  My favorite combination of Monat systems is the Renew Shampoo and Revitalize Conditioner.  It keeps my hair hydrated, smooth, and shinny.
  • Don’t wash your hair everyday.  I only wash my hair twice a week.  Shampooing your hair drys it out, ultimately leading to broken, brittle ends.  Another way to keep your hair hydrated and healthy is not washing it every day.  Monat has dramatically helped my hair to stay clean but not oily longer!!  Before I used Monat I would have to wash my hair every other day.  It takes some time to train your hair to go a little longer so be patient.
  • Dry Shampoo is your new BFF {my favorite brand}
  • Shampoo only the roots of your hair.  Condition only the ends of your hair.
  • Let your hair air dry.  Put your blow dryer on cool if you have to use it to style your hair.
  • Minimize the amount of heat tools you use.  (similar to above)  Heat tools are very debilitating!!  Since I don’t wash my hair everyday, I find that I use heat tools a lot less.  If you need to style your hair often and can’t get away from heat tools then make sure you are using a good protectent!!  I love the Monat blow out cream, but I also really like the CHI Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray.
  • Leave in conditioners/hair repair and treatment products are so important in keeping those ends healthy and hydrated.  I LOVE the It’s a 10 Miracle Leave in Product so much!! I spray it on my ends while my hair is still damp right after washing it.  I also love the Monat Rejuvabead Split End Mender and apply that to my ends after washing as well.
  •  Avoid the Ombre/Balayage coloring.  I have learned that applying a lot of color to your ends is horrible!!  I know a lot of girls love it because you don’t have to keep up with your roots, but coloring your hair in the first place drys it out, let a lone all that blonde on your ends.  It can lead to disaster if you’re not careful.  Since I first hand had this happen to my hair, I now highlight my hair.  It honestly isn’t a lot to keep up with, I probably only color my hair twice a year and I love the different shades of blonde and brown.
  • My favorite hair spray has always been Big Sexy Hair Volumizing Hairspray and always will be.  It doesn’t leave your hair crunchy, it stays smooth and silky but holds all day long!!  You have to be careful with over using hairspray, because it can dry it out!! Remember, hydration is everything!!
  • Brush your hair.  It’s simple!!  Spend a few minutes brushing your hair so the natural oils on your scalp can be distributed throughout your hair making it shinny and smooth.
